The year 2018 is coming to an end and it’s time to look back and decide what the best games of the year were.
There is no doubt that it was a fruitful year that produced many great games for many different platforms, both indie and major titles. The gaming industry certainly is booming!
So let’s do this. Top 10 games of 2018.
Into the breach is a turn based strategy game set in a post-apocalyptic world where humans use mechs to fight creatures that spawn from the ground. Pretty cool, right?
A platformer game that proves climbing a mountain is a perfectly acceptable plot for a video game and also very fun to do. Madeline is already waiting for you!
A game where you follow escaped convicts on their journey to and through freedom, maybe also back to prison? Play it to find out!
A very interesting indie puzzle game made in graphics that resemble early Macintosh systems. The goal is to find out what happened to passengers of a ship that all mysteriously died.
The classic brought back in a 2018 as a whole new game. Pick your favourite Nintendo character and let the fighting begin!
VR platformer game with a very cute robot character. At first you might think “Why in the world would a platformer game be set in VR?”, but you’d be wrong. This game offers hours of fun and the fact that it is a VR game makes the experience even better. Turning your head to find that ledge for your character to advance is just so much fun you’ll never want to play a regular platformer again.
I’ve always been a fan of the Hitman games. Played and loved all of them, so the newest instalment was a very welcome addition in 2018. Anyone that is familiar with the Hitman games knows that most of them don’t do much on the story level and this one is no exception. The biggest appeal of the game is absolutely the mechanics that allow you to plan and execute the perfect hit.
The famous series continues in fashion. The move from Greek to Nordic mythology was a little worrisome, but turned out fantastic and the God of war continued fighting like a champ in 2018 as well. A must play game, especially if you are a fan of the franchise.
Gamification of exercise at its finest. This indie VR game is great by all standards. It’s super fun to play, it will get you moving and is also very challenging. Who knew that breaking bricks in a rhythm could be so much fun!
Beat saber offers campaign mode, free play and party mode where you can play and dance with your friends. A global high score is also recorded, so you can always set yourself a personal challenge of becoming the best in one of the songs.
The whole point of the game is to break bricks that fly towards you at a correct angle with two light sabers. Your score is decided on how well you cut the bricks. The end result is that you are effectively dancing to electronic music. Super fun. Kind of like guitar hero, but for dancing.
Probably not a big surprise that Red dead redemption 2 is on the top of the best games of 2018 list. An open world game that has so much detail and things to do is absolutely amazing. If you liked the first part, you’ll love the sequel.
This level of detail and all around awesomeness did however come at a price. Rumours of overworked developers around this game are plenty and if you look hard enough, you’ll even find references to it in the game itself (Hint: Look at weapons descriptions). Even so, they can absolutely be super proud of the end result.
A must play and worth every penny of the price.
So that is it, my picks for the best 10 games of 2018. Do you agree or disagree? Come to the Party Games Planet Facebook page and comment!
